Day 1

Holland Village, Malay Heritage Center, Robertson Quay

holland_village_map.jpgThian_Hong.._Temple.jpgLast night we arrived in Singapore. It was a long trip and we are very tired but we are up early and ready to start our first day. We began the morning in Holland Village. It was fascinating to see the mix of old and new culture, there were lots of traditional coffeshops and on the other side ritzy fine dining restaurants, plus we found some great asian craft souvenirs. After a morning of exploring and observing the hustle bustle we decided to make our way to the Malay Heritage center to learn more about the Islamic religion. It was really quite educational to learn about the Muslim immigrants and thier religion. I would recommend this museum to anyone travelling through the area. We stopped by Capitol Building on North Bridge Road for a bite to eat and a did some window shopping in the fashion boutiques. For lunch we tried chicken biryani, an Indian Muslim item, it was...different!, but i would have it again. By this time we were pretty worn out, the jet lag was catching up, so we made our way back to the hostel for a quick nap before we head out for the night. We met a group of guys from Australia at the hostel who decided to join us for an evening out at Robertson Quay.
